Serbia’s PM asks OSCE help over Belgrade press in Kosovo
Ana Brnabic, Serbia’s Prime Minister informed on Monday the OSCE Representative on Freedom of Media Harlem Désir about the Kosovo Serbs’ basic rights to read newspapers in their mother tongue being imperilled after Pristina imposed 100 percent import tariffs from Serbia, the Beta news agency reported.
In a phone conversation, Brnabic told Désir that the Kosovo Serbs were without the newspapers from Serbia >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << for the fourth day in a row in violation of the right to information in a native language, a statement from her office said.
Last week, Pristina introduced 100 percent import taxeson goods coming from Serbia and Bosnia, including the newspapers.
The statement quoted Brnabic as asking Désir to include OSCE, as an international organisation dealing, among other issues, with media freedoms, to urgently protect the right of the Serbs to be informed in the Serbian language.
According to the statement, Désir accepted to get involved in solving the problem.
The statement added Serbia’s Government would continue to cooperate with the OSCE intensively.
