Kosovo Serbs announce new protest against import taxes
Serbs in Kosovo said they would stage another protest against Pristina decision to impose 100 percent import tariffs on goods from Serbia on Tuesday in the northern part of the divided town of Mitrovica, the Beta news agency reported on Monday.
The local Crisis Staff called on “peaceful and democratic expression of disagreement with Pristina senseless move,” adding the decision directly affected “the survival >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << of Kosovo Serbs."
Last Friday, local Serbs staged peaceful protests in several parts of northern Kosovo, over Pristina move to increase import taxes for goods from Serbia, but also against the Pristina special ROSU unit’s arrests earlier that day.
A deputy leader of the Serb List, a party, supported by Belgrade, called on Monday on all citizens to take part in the new protest.
“I appeal to you not to fall for any provocation that may come from the other side. We must be peaceful, and we must refrain since this is not a fight against anyone, but for our right to live a proper life for a human being in the 21st century,” Igor Simic said.
Also on Tuesday, the authorities in Serb-populated municipalities would hold special meetings to discuss a political-security situation and economic consequences of the Pristina decision.
The director of the Mitrovica Clinical Centre Milan Ivanovic said there was “a problem with medical supplies and medicines which directly endangers the lives of the Serbs in Kosovo.”
