NGOs ask Mogherini to reject Kosovo partition
Civil Society organisations from Serbia and Kosovo have once again sent an open letter to EU’s top official Federica Mogherini, asking her to unequivocally reject any partition of Kosovo or a swapping of territories between Kosovo and Serbia based on ethnicity, saying this practice has resulted in bloody conflicts several times in the past.
"More and more frequent indications of border changes send a very dangerous message to citizens of Serbia and Kosovo, as well >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << as the entire region, as there is a realistic possibility of legitimation of the dangerous principle of ethnic ownership over territory - a principal that has on several occasions pushed us into bloody conflicts," said the letter addressed to Mogherini, who is EU High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
According to the organisations, such a partition would cause a chain reaction in other Balkan countries as well, opening the door for further conflicts.
"Also, Serbs and Albanians who live on the 'wrong side' would be sent a message that they need to move to 'their' ethnic country, which could cause another exodus of people in the Balkans," they wrote.
