Kosovo’s Thaci: We strive toward mutual recognition

Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci said on Thursday he wanted to agree a legally binding document on normalisation of relations between Pristina and Belgrade and the mutual recognition in last Sunday’s meeting in Brussels with his Serbia’s counterpart Aleksandar Vucic.

The, however, did not end with the optimism of either leader, but the two agreed to sit together again soon.

Thaci told reporters on Thursday, >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << that it was the first meeting and that the next ones would follow in weeks and months to come.

“The dialogue aims to build sustainable peace and the European future for Kosovo’s citizens.”

“Kosovo had a constructive role during the dialogue and was open to any initiative to meet our people’s wish for a better life,” the Beta news agency quoted Thaci as saying.

He added that “in this last meeting we cooperated in looking for possible options in a final stage of the process.”

The next encounters, according to Thaci, will be about the fundamentals of “the final agreement.”

He said he expected difficult meetings. “We are talking about a conflict which should end in reconciliation, normalisation and mutual recognition,” and added that the agreement with Serbia was necessary for Kosovo’s international integrations.

Thaci said that “Kosovo will, as always, have the support of the US in reaching the final agreement.“

"Until now, the talks were about an agreement framework, nothing more. I expect an invitation for the next gathering soon,” he said, adding that the agreement would be binding for all institutions.
