Belgrade boosts efforts to stop Kosovo from joining Interpol
Serbia’s Interior Minister has said on Friday his country will use all legal, police and political arguments to block Kosovo’s membership to Interpol which Pristina expects next month, the Beta news agency reported.
Speaking to the Prva television he said he had sent a letter to all Interpol member states, adding he and his associates would meet those countries’ officials and ask them not to let Kosovo into this international police organisation.
He >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << added he was not naive to believe that one letter or a meeting would change the course of events and that all countries who wanted to vote for Kosovo’s membership would give up, but “maybe some will.”
“There are countries which care about the international law, the Interpol resolution and advocate that professional police organisations should not be under the political influence,” Stefanovic said.
He added that “Kosovo’s membership would violate its status neutrality, the international law, the internal regulations,” and that Belgrade had “serious doubt regarding their professionalism and willingness of Kosovo police officers to fight crime.”
Stefanovic said he was convinced that there were many countries which could not be bribed, adding that “Serbia will fight to the end, putting in all efforts and energy” to prevent Kosovo’s membership.
