Belgrade: Secession of Presevo Valley not issue in Brussels

The Kosovo annexation of the three municipalities from Serbia’s south with an ethnic Albanian majority will not be on the agenda of the European Union-facilitated Belgrade – Pristina dialogue, Serbia’s Government official in charge of the region has said, N1 reported.

Zoran Stankovic, the head of the Coordinating Body for Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja, said the international community representatives had told >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << him that there would not be any exchange of territories (between Belgrade and Pristina) because that would trigger a chain reaction not only in the Balkans.

“This is the opinion of the decision-making countries and the states with a dominant influence in the UN,” Stankovic said, without any further details.

Ahead of the new round of the dialogue, consider to be crucial in solving the Kosovo issue, the Albanians from the three municipalities adopted a “political resolution” demanding that Belgrade and Pristina include their region into the Brussels talks. They require the same rights that the Serbs have in Kosovo.

However, Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci has said that the regional secession from Serbia and its coupling with Kosovo will be a part of the dialogue and that that is in line with his demand for border correction with Belgrade. He rejected the ideas of the territory swap or the partition of Kosovo.

Stankovic said that the latest political resolution was the third, after those from 2006 and 2013, and that nothing happened then, adding it was a political move ahead of the elections for the councils of national minorities in Serbia.
