Serbia's opposition MP: Let’s boycott Parliament work
A member of Serbia’s parliament from the Democratic Party (DS) said the opposition should boycott the assembly because the ruling majority stultified the work of that body, the Beta news agency reported.
Speaking to the Monday’s edition of the Danas daily, Goran Jesic said that the parliamentarians from the opposition Alliance for Serbia (SZS), the block the DS is member of, should leave the assembly and that such decision should be brought as soon as possible.
He >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << said that it would be a kind of pressure on the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) led by President Aleksandar Vucic to allow “free and fair elections.”
Jesic added that the parliament used to be the last resort of any opposition acting, but that that has not been the case since last December when the SNS submitted 5,000 amendments on its budget proposal and thus “denied the opposition its anyway short time for discussion.”
“The second important reason is that Vucic reportedly leads a ‘dialogue’ on the Kosovo status without any parliament platform. He leads that quasi-debate with everyone, from the relatives of (US billionaire George) Soros to the Serbian Orthodox Church clergy, but not in the parliament,” Jesic said.
He added that the eventual boycott of the parliament work could lead to the boycott of the elections. “In this circumstances, if the situation does not change, the elections should be boycotted.”
General elections in Serbia are scheduled for 2020, while presidential race should not be held before 2022.
