Serbian government says medical fund available to all
The Serbian government issued a statement on Friday calling all citizens of Serbia who need medical treatment abroad to contact its Budget Fund.
The statement said all requests will be considered and decisions taken as soon as possible. It recalled that the Budget Fund for the treatment of patients abroad had been set up in 2014 and that 1,975 children had been sent out of the country for treatment at a cost of some 23 million Euros.
Health Care Minister Zlatibor Loncar >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << appeared on N1 TV earlier this week to say that everyone who needs medical treatment abroad can apply to the Budget Fund. His statement came after a four year old boy was rushed to Barcelona for cancer treatment paid for by the non-profit fund Support Life (Podrzi Zivot).
The government pledged to donate 250,000 Euros to that fund after it announced that the money for the boy’s treatment had been secured through private donations and SMS messages. The Support Life fund was set up in 2014 for the sole purpose of helping pay for the treatment of seriously ill children who can’t be treated in Serbia. The fund was attacked by a Belgrade pro-government tabloid for allegedly not revealing that one of it beneficiaries was being treated at a US clinic free of charge.
