Serbian Judges Society warns of media pressure
The Serbian Judges’ Society warned on Monday that some of the media are creating a lack of trust in the judiciary with their reporting.
A press release said that some of the media were expressing legally invalid criticism of court rulings in an effort to pressure judges. The Society called the High Judiciary Council to react immediatelly.
The Society said that some incorrect and demeaning reports show that certain media have no intention of correctly and fully informing >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the public but are pressuring the courts to get better rulings for indicted persons.
It said that the pressure is especially strong on judges at the Higher Court in Belgrade which is in charge of resolving media disputes from all over the country.
The Society calls the High Judiciary Council and other state bodies to “urgently and with more determination react once again to these occurrences in order to protect the independence and impartiality of the courts and the presumption of innocence guaranteed by international conventions, the constitution and laws”.
