Serbian GDP rises in first quarter
Serbia’s GDP has grown 4.6 percent in real terms in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the same period a year earlier and 1.5 percent compared to the last quarter of 2017, the Serbian Statistics Office said on Thursday.
The Serbian government planned a growth of the GDP of 3.5 percent for 2018.
Significant growth was recorded in the construction industry (26.4 percent), water supply and waste water management (5.3 percent), IT and communications (5.1 percent), the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << retail and wholesale trade, vehicle repair, traffic and food and accomodation industries (4.6 percent).
Serbia’s trade with other countries in the first quarter of 2018 was worth 11.95 billion Euro or 10.9 percent more than a year earklier with exports recording a growth of 7.5 percent and imports a growth of 13.5 percent. Goods exports were worth 5.12 billion Euro and imports 6.82 billion which means the trade deficit was 1.69 billion Euro or 36.2 percent higher than a year earlier.
Trade with the European Union member states accounts for 64.3 percent of Serbia’s overall foreign trade.
Exports to the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) signatory states was worth 836.8 million Euro while imports from those countries stood at 260.2 million Euro with the trade surplus standing at 576.6 million Euro.
The highest surplus in trade was with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia (FYROM), Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia, Great Britain, Sweden and Slovenia and highest trade deficit was with China which supplies electronics and Russia which supplies fuels, the Statistics Office said.
