Unemployment at 14.8 percent, Serbian Statistics Office says
The unemployment rate in Serbia stood at 14.8 percent in the first quarter of the year, the Serbian Statistics Office said on Thursday adding that the workforce numbered 2,688,300 people in that period with 468,700 registered unemployed.
Overall employment numbers dropped by 75,300 and unemployment figures by 6,800.
The youth employment rate stood at 18.5 percent and unemployment rate at 34.6 percent.
According to the latest figures, the unemployment rate for >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << men stood at 14.1 percent and for women at 15.8 percent.
The employment rate for people over the age of 15 was 45.1 percent and the unemployment rate stood at 14.8 percent.
Employment was found in the first quarter of the year mainly by people aged 25 to 44 in the Belgrade area and Vojvodina in the processing, construction and technical industries, administration and auxiliary activities as well as in IT and communications.
The size of the labour force (both employed and unemployed) rose by 52,000 compared to the first quarter of 2017.
The data shows a rise in both employment and unemployment rates compared to the first quarter of 2017 with the number of employed rising by 36,100 and the number of unemployed rising by 15,900.
