Recognition needed to normalize Belgrade-Pristina relations

Pristina’s negotiation team chief Avni Arifi said on Tuesday that “mutual recognition” is the only option in normalizing Belgrade-Pristina relations.

“Division is not an option and whoever thinks about division is not thinking about peace in the Balkans. We have to be smart. The best thing for everyone. Reconciliation is the biggest compromise and we should have mutual recognition,” Arifi told Belgrade’s TV Prva.

Speaking about the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << under European Union auspices, Arifi said the best format for the dialogue should be adopt, adding that this is not just a question of format but of efficiency as well. “We have to find a way for agreements to be implemented as soon as possible,” he said.

 Arifi said the working group formed to draft the statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM) is continuing its efforts, adding that the CSM will have every power allowed under the Kosovo Constitution, not including executive powers. “It will not be another level of power in Kosovo,” he said.
