Raspberry growers of Serbia continue protesting

Raspberry growers of Serbia continued blocking the state road connecting this country with Montenegro after they failed to reach an agreement with authorities on redemption price of raspberries.

Dissatisfied with the proposed redemption price for raspberries, they blocked the road on Saturday demanding the resignation of Agriculture minister and a meeting with the country’s President and Prime Minister.

According to Belgrade-based daily Vecernje novosti, they failed >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << to reach an agreement with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, as both parties in the talks have opposing opinions.

“The issue of the market price of raspberries exceeds the competences of the Agriculture Ministry, which is why the country cannot guarantee the producers the redemption price of RSD 180 (approx EUR 1.60),” said the ministry representative Senad Mahmutovic.

Head of the Association of Agricultural Producers of Uzice Sladjana Stankovic noted that the producers do not ask for state’s money but for the market to be regulated.
