Judge Majic: Serbian judiciary is not independent
Serbia does not seem to be learning lessons from the European Commission's (EC) reports, said Appellate Court judge Miodrag Majic, commenting on the EC's report according to which Serbia failed to reach progress in crucial sectors.
Speaking for N1, Majic said, “we were persistently receiving bad grades and we don't understand that at all, we are persistently heading to a direction which constantly gets bad grades.”
Asked if Serbian judiciary was clean from politics >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << and independent, he replied it was not.
“We started the whole process of reforming the Constitution with a task this country created through an action plan and documents on that reform,” Majic explained, adding that “the only thing there was no dispute about is that there is a serious political influence on the judiciary which must change in the constitutional reform.”
Speaking about the EC's report which among other things said that Serbia failed to make progress in crucial sectors, Majic said that the tone of diplomatic documents is always somewhat milder.
“Unfortunately, it still seems as if we learn nothing from these reports. We persistently get bad grades and we don't understand that, we are persistently heading to a direction which constantly gets negative grades, especially in the 23 chapter which will prove to be the biggest obstacle in our European integration,” Majic assessed.
