Belgrade tabloid to pay fine to independent website editor

A Belgrade tabloid has to pay 1.270 Euros fines in damages to the editor of the KRIK investigative website for abusive articles it published about him in 2016, a higher court ruled on Tuesday.

The KRIK website quoted the verdict as saying that the Informer tabloid and its editor-in-chief Dragan Vucicevic were guilty of insulting Stevan Dojcinovic’s honour and invading his privacy by labelling him “sadistic masochist French spy, mafia associate and a terrorist.

”The >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << paper accused Dojcinovic of inventing scandals and “framing (the then Serbia’s PM) Aleksandar Vucic and his family."

Dojcinovic sued the Informer in 2016 demanding the compensation for the harm done to his honour and for exposing the details from his private life.

The court ruled that Informer’s information about Dojcinovic ’s were not accurate.

Both sides have right to an appeal. The Informer would also have to publish the court’s ruling both in its print and online editions once the verdict was final.
