UNDP report highlights biggest problems in Kosovo
The population of Kosovo sees unemployment, corruption and poverty as its biggest problems, a UNDP report has shown.
The Public Pulse report also showed that the majority of the Kosovo Serbs feel unsafe. “The number of Kosovo Serbs who have said that they feel safe or very safe when they are on the street is 5 percent. The report was drawn up following a poll of 896 Albanians, 210 Serbs 200 members of other minority communities in the second half of April.
According to the report, 67 percent of the polled said that they do not feel safe on the streets while 33% feel generally unsafe.
Hetemi said that unemployment, corruption and poverty are viewed as the three biggest problems in Kosovo.
The report showed that 78 percent of the polled think that bribery, nepotism and political affiliation are the main criteria for employment, he said. Other problems that citizens consider on a daily basis are education and health services,“ Hetemi said.
The polled citizens of Kosovo feel that corruption is most present in courts and the central administration and the least in the police and international organisations. Just 2 percent of the polled Serbs said they trust the Kosovo parliament, Hetemi said.
The UNDP Public Pulse XIV report is funded by USAID in Kosovo and analyses the perceptions of the population of Kosovo of political, economic, security, and development issues.
