South Serbia mayor files charges over invitations

The mayor of a southern Serbian town with a large Albanian population filed criminal charges against his deputy for inviting the presidents of Albania and Kosovo to the May 1 celebrations.

Florim Shahiti, the deputy mayor of Medvedja, said on Thursday that Presidents Hashim Thaci of Kosovo and Ilir Meta of Albania had been invited to the celebrations in the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << village of Tupale along with the Serbian president and prime minister.

He said the same invitations had been sent in previous years and denied having invited Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj.

The criminal charges were filed by Mayor Nebojsa Arsic because Thaci was invited, Shahiti said and added that no charges had ever been filed over the invitations.
