Serbia’s top security body discusses Kosovo

Serbia’s top national security body met on Friday and focused on the situation in Kosovo and ways to prevent a new exodus of Serbs, Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic told TV Prva after the meeting, adding that detailed plan had been drawn up whose details he could not disclose.

Stefanovic chairs the Security Service Coordination Bureau which brings together the heads of the law enforcement and security services.

He said the overall security situation had been discussed, with focus on Kosovo and the announced forming of a military force there. “We ant to prevent that from spilling over into a significant destabilization or anything that could jeopardise the safety of not just the Serbs in Kosovo but others,” the minister said.

Stefanovic said that “it seems likely for now” that a Kosovo military will be promoted in less than two weeks but rejected the possibility of one of its regiments being deployed in the north of Kosovo as of November 28. “That is absolutely impossible,” he said.

“Our mission is to prevent security problems for the Serbs (in Kosovo),” the minister said.
