Serbia's Vucic on recognizing Crimea as part of Russia

Serbia did not recognize Crimea as a part of Russia, because that would mean support to the independence of Kosovo, said President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.

Speaking for the French Le Monde, Vucic said that Belgrade did not support sanctions against Moscow in 2014, although Serbia clearly expressed its ambitions on the road to the European Union.

“Put yourself in our position. Which one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council supports our territorial >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << integrity? Russia. Should we shoot our own foot?,” said Vucic.

According to him, Belgrade’s European integration and good relations with Moscow are not contradicting each other.

“We want to strengthen traditional relations with Russia, our trade cooperation. From the military point of view, we are neutral. But, of course, we are on the European road. I am saying that in Brussels, Washington and Moscow,” added Vucic.

Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014, following a referendum held after the upheaval in Kiev. Ukraine, on the other hand, does not recognize that referendum and qualifies Crimea its temporarily occupied territory.
