Serbia’s Minster Kosovo as Interpol member creates precedent
Nebojsa Stefanovic, Serbia’ Interior Minister, said that Kosovo’s eventual entry into Interpol would be a severe violation of the international law and the UN Security Council 1244 (regulating Kosovo after the 1998-1999 war there), the Beta news agency reported on Tuesday.
He added that the move would also mean a politicisation of that organisation. >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija <<
“That would be a precedent which is not in line with the Interpol’s rules stipulating that only the UN member and observer states can join,” Stefanovic said.
He added that an eventual decision to accept Kosovo into Interpol would be exclusively a political move that would not be based in the international law and would have damaging consequences not only to Serbia but all other Interpol member states.
The Interpol General Assembly is scheduled to consider Kosovo’s membership request late next month.
Belgrade is strongly against Kosovo’s membership, and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said that the move was Pristina’s manoeuvrer to “enter the UN through the back-door.”
