Serb List welcomes power company decision

A senior Kosovo Serb politician has welcomed announcements that the Serbian power company Elektromreza Srbije would continue operating in Kosovo.

Serb List deputy leader Igor Simic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that energy independence and security is hugely important to the four majority-Serb municipalities in northern Kosovo.

Serbian President >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Aleksandar Vucic said over the weekend that a vote at a meeting of the European electricity transmission association (ENTSO) meant that the Elektromreze Srbije company could continue operating in Kosovo. The power transmission company was set up in 2005 and operates in Kosovo under an energy agreement reached by Belgrade and Pristina.

Simic recalled the situation in 2009 when those municipalities depended on the authorities in Pristina for their power needs. “We were close to a humanitarian catastrophe then because Pristina turned power off for days to create impossible conditions for the Serbs. That is why this latest news has been welcomed,” Simic said.
