Senior Serbian MP expects indictments against KLA
Senior Serbian ruling party MP Milovan Drecun said on Thursday that he expects the Special Prosecutor to file the first indictments for crimes committed by Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) forces.
Drecun, who chairs the parliamentary Kosovo Committee, told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that a Serbian working group had collected 2,123 documents, inlcuding testimonies and coroners’ findings, about crimes committed by >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the KLA in the Dukajin zone of operations alone.
He said the prosecutor should also take into consideration reports by international organizations because they show that those organizations knew about crimes but did nothing to prevent them. He cited the example of journalist Djuro Slavuj whose whereabouts are still unknown, saying that an OSCE observer reported on February 23, 1999 that he spoke to a KLA member who told him that he knew that two Serb journalists were being held in a prison.
He also condemned a statement by Nasim Haradinaj, a close relative of Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj and one of the leaders of the KLA veterans’ organization, who said he killed Serbian soldiers every chance he had. According to Drecun, that statement confirms Belgrade’s view that the forming of a Kosovo military is dangerous, especially since the KLA veterans are meant to be involved in it.
