Public Health Institute says 5,000 measles cases reported

Almost 5,000 cases of measles have been reported in Serbia proper and Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo since October 2017, the Serbian Institute of Public Health said.

According to Institute figures, a total of 4,829 cases were reported and 15 people have died of complications in the past seven months.

The Institute report shows that 95 percent of the people who have contracted measles were not inoculated >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << or were only partly inoculated. About one third (32 percent) have been hospitalized.

Two patients have inflammation of the brain and 529 have contracted pneumonia. Most of the cases were reported in Belgrade (1,584) and Nis (1,105).

An anti-inoculation campaign has been ongoing in Serbia for several years, launched following claims that the vaccines have negative after effects on children.
