Pristina daily: Not enough proofs against KLA yet
The office of the Special Prosecutor at the Special Court for the war crimes committed by high ranking members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) has not yet managed to gather enough evidence for the indictments, the Pristina Zeri daily reported on Wednesday.
The Office’s representative Christopher Bennett told the daily that the investigation went on and that the prosecutors would decide on the inducements when there were enough evidence and facts.
“The Special >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Prosecutors’ Office is aware that there are expectations regarding the indictments and we will decide on that in time, i.e., when we gather all necessary evidence,” he said, adding that “an effective investigation” would continue.
The daily said that the Office did not rush to charge anyone because that decision could not be taken unless the conditions for a fair trial were secured.
The KLA was a guerrilla force fighting Belgrade military and police units during the 1989-1999 war.
Earlier this month, Kosovo’s Special prosecutor Elez Blakaj resigned over threats because of a probe into suspected manipulation with the list of former members of the KLA.
