Poll shows majority expects Serbia to recognize Kosovo
A majority of Albanians expect Serbia to recognize Kosovo but a majority of Serbs feel that is unacceptable, the Beta news agency said on Wednesday citing the results of a poll conducted by the Kosovo Democratic Institute.
The Institute’s Violeta Haxholi said the results of the poll differ depending on the ethnicity of the people polled.
“Ninety seven percent of the polled Albanians expect the negotiations >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << to result in Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo while 91 percent of the polled Serbs fell that that is unacceptable,” she said at a presentation of the results of the poll.
The poll showed that 56 percent also expect Kosovo to become a member of the United Nations, while 25 percent expect the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue to result in greater autonomy for the Kosovo Serbs.A total of 22 percent of the polled said they expect Serbia and Kosovo to exchange territories.
The poll of 1,000 citizens of Kosovo was conducted in April and May 2018.
Almost half of the polled believe that Serbia’s influence in Kosovo will not diminish after a final agreement is reached between Belgrade and Pristina.
According to the poll results, the Serb List would win two percent of the vote if elections were held now, the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo 30 percent, the Democratic Party of Kosovo 23 percent and Self-determination (Vetëvendosje) 21 percent.
