Not safe to open Mitrovica bridge
A leading Kosovo Serb politician said it isn’t safe to open the bridge connecting the two parts of the divided town of Mitrovica.
“At this moment I don’t think the security or other conditions are in place to open the bridge,” Serb List party leader and Mitrovica Mayor Goran Rakic said. “The mayor has the final say on the security situation on the bridge,” he added.

Rakic said European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic was wrong to insist on the opening of the bridge because she did not have a good assessment of the security situation.
Media in Pristina reported Kocijancic as saying that the European Union expects the agreement on opening the bridge across the Ibar river in Mitrovica to be implemented without further delay.
Rakic said that agreement cannot be implemented without a demarcation of the two parts of Mitrovica as agreed during the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue in Brussels. “An EU representative agreed to the bridge being opened when the two sides agree, not when someone from the outside demands it,” he said.
