Kosovo government forms team, limits president’s powers
Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said on Monday that Deputy Prime Minister Fatmir Limaj would head the so-called Unity Team for negotiations with Serbia, the gazetablic portal reported.
Haradinaj told reporters after a session of his cabinet that President Hashim Thaci will continue meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for high-level talks within the European Union mediated dialogue but will not be able to reach agreements without the approval of the Unity >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Team.
“Meetings between the Presidents can not be stopped, but from now on the subject of Kosovo can not be left only to the president. There can be no agreement on Kosovo without these people," the prime minister said, adding that both ruling and opposition parties are opposed to the idea of an exchange of territories.
"Limaj and his fellow team members do not have a mandate to talk about territory. The appointment of this delegation does not imply the approval of ideas for territory,” he said.
Senior government and parliament officials met with Kosovo President Thaci late last week and said after the meeting that agreement was reached to stop all discussions about exchanges of territory. Thaci said after the meeting that this did not mean that he would not table the idea of changing the borders of Kosovo to include the Presevo valley in southern Serbia which has a large ethnic Albanian population.
