Belgrade, Pristina warned constitutions might be amended
Belgrade and Pristina have been warned that they might have to amend their respective constitutions before reaching a final agreement to solve the Kosovo problem, Pristina’s Albanian-language daily newspaper Koha Ditore said on Monday.
“The participants in the dialogue on normalizing Belgrade-Pristina relations have been warned that there might come a point when the constitutions of >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Kosovo and Serbia will have to be re-written so that the final agreement on relations between the two countries can be implemented,”the newspaper said.
“Kosovo will allow greater powers and responsibility for the Association of Serb Municipalities and the abolishing of the requirement for a two thirds majority to adopt vitally important laws. Kosovo’s UN membership is part of the agreement package,” Koha Ditore said.
The two thirds majority is the main reason why the Kosovo parliament has not adopted laws to transform the Kosovo Security Forces into a military.
The newspaper said that Kosovo government spokespersons have officially denied that any such condition was set but added that they know the dialogue will be a hard process with a lot of unknown elements.
Koha Ditore said that Kosovo would become a UN member even if Serbia does not recognize it but only if Russia does not block it in the Security Council.
