Belgrade - Pristina talks resume Monday
Representatives of Pristina and Belgrade are to resume so-called Brussels dialog on Monday (March 19) in the Belgium capital, including discussion on a highly sensitive issue of establishing the Union of Serb Communities in Kosovo.
Marko Djuric, the head of the Serbian governement Office for Kosovo and Mehohija, will lead the Belgrade delegation, during the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << session expected to last until March 21 in the European Foreign Office building.
Djuric's Office said that apart from the Union of Serb community issue, the agenda was planned to include topics like energy, freedom of movement, the dividing bridge over Ibar river in Kosovska Mitrovica, and integrated management of the administrative border crossings.
The Belgrade delegation will include the members of the respected ministries depending on the issues. The representatives of Kosovo institutions will occupy the other side of the negotiationg table.
Belgrade and Pristina started the EU-sponsored talks back in March 2011, ffollowing the Kosovo declaration of independence from Serbia in February 2008. Belgrade does not recognise Kosovo as an independent state, while Pristina sees the dialogue with Serbia's capital as one between the two countries.
After the Internatiobal Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the independence declaration was not illegal, Serbia and the EU submitted a resolution to the UN General Assembly calling for technical negotiations between the governments in Belgrade and Pristina. Assembly adopted the resolution and the negotiations started in 2016. The talks were lately delayed due to Kosovo's government collapsing, forcing Pristina into early elections in May 2017, and then again after a Serb leader in Kosovo Oliver Ivanovic was gunned down outsied his party HQ on January 16. The assassination happened amid a round of negotiations and the Serb delegation walked out of the talks in a protest.
