Ultranationalists cause incident in parliament

Ultranationalists in the Serbian parliament threatened a woman MP who called for the expulsion of their leader who was sentenced for war crimes.

MPs from the far-right Serbian Radical Party (SRS) surrounded Democratic Party (DS) MP Aleksandra Jerkov, threatening and insulting her after she stood up in parliament to ask when their leader Vojislav Seselj would have his seat taken away after being >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << sentenced by a war crimes tribunal in the Hague.

“The SRS MPs, both men and women, waited till she was alone in, surrounded her, insulted her brutally and threatened to “bust her snout”. They said she would see what will happen to her in the next few days, DS parliament group chief Goran Ciric said, adding that the deputy speaker failed to react to the incident.

Before the incident, Jerkov asked the deputy speaker when Seselj would be expelled under the article of the rules of parliament which states that MPs will loose their seat if they are sentenced to more than six months in prison. Seselj was sentenced to 10 years in jail by a UN war crimes tribunal for crimes committed during the wars in the former Yugoslavia.
