Tensions Rise between Belgrade and Pristina
War of words contines between Belgrade and Pristina officials following incident last Monday and the consequent Serb representatives walk-out from the Kosovo government
Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj and President Hashim Thaci said on Wednesday (March 28) thatthe forming of the Community >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << of Serb Municipalities (CSM) would be only in accordance with the Brussels Agreement on normalisation of the relations between Pristina and Belgrade.
The two reportedly discussed an overall situation in Kosovo, especially the issue ofthe Managing group for formation of the CSM.
The meeting took place a day after Kosovo Serbs said they walked out of the Kosovo Government and announced that if Pristina failed to do that, they would form the CSM themselves on April 20, on the fifth anniversary of the Brussels Agreement, saying that failure to form the CSM in five years was not acceptable.
Earlier, in an action by Kosovo police, a Serb official, who entered the northern town of Mitrovica without permission from Pristina, was briefly detained, while over 30 people sought medical care.
The statement following Kosovo top officials meeting said that:” Threatening tones form Serbia won’t have any effect in Kosovo. Its institutions consider a dialogue not ultimatum as a road to building up a European and multi-ethnic Kosovo”.
In what appears as another war of words between Pristina and Belgrade, Haradinaj sent a message to Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic warning him that an ultimatum was a wrong approach and that Pristina patience had its limits.
"The ultimatum is a wrong path; the only way is to respect the legitimate and constitutional platform. Serbia’s President Vucic should understand that our patience is not limitless and that we will defend our rights,” Haradinaj tweeted, adding there would not be either division or exchange of territories between Belgrade and Pristina.
Those two option have been circulating as possible solution to the issue of Belgrade – Pristina relations for years, but there hasn’t been any official confirmation that either idea was seriously considered by any party.
In a tit-for-tat, Marko Djuric, the head of Serbia’s Government Office for Kosovo, tweeted that Pristina officials “are preparing for a war” and that Haradinaj was right. “There will not be any division or exchange of territories because the whole Kosovo and Metohija belong to Serbia”.
Haradinaj urged members of the Serb List, a political organisation which participated in his government, to return to the table and discuss common issues for the benefit of all citizens.
