Murcof is the performing and recording name of Mexican electronica artist Fernando Corona.
Influenced mainly, though not exclusively, by classical and electronic minimalism, Murcof works with orchestral samples, microscopically detailed textures, sounds and rhythms, exploring how digital precision and acoustic warmth can complement each other. The music is intended to reflect a digitalized way of interacting with the world, with each other and ourselves.
Murcof’s music is sparse, minimalist, sample-based electronica. A key element is the complex, and sometimes abstract, glitchy electronic percussion. Many recordings feature orchestral strings sampled from recordings of works by modern composers such as Arvo Pärt. Corona uses silence to suspense in his works. There is also an obvious influence from film music, as can be heard in the use of samples and the dramatic production style, and these elements are also evident in the soundtracks Corona has performed for films such as Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.
AntiVJ is a visual label initiated by a group of European artists whose work is focused on the use of projected light and its influence on our perception. Clearly stepping away from standard setups and techniques, AntiVJ presents live performances and installations, providing the audience with a sensory-challenging experience.
AntiVJ combine powerful video projectors with bespoke digital mapping techniques and holographic illusions to create a truly unique visual experience that has to be seen to be believed.Taking visuals away from the restrictions of flat rectangular screens and into the real world, the label transforms objects, sculptures or buildings into hypnotising canvasses to create immersive site-specific experiences.
