Belgrade New Classics – the new CD of LP Duo (Sonja Loncar, Andrija Pavlovic) is an extraordinary selection of the finest contemporary music pieces created and performed in Belgrade in the beginning of 21st century. Combination of diversity in artistic expressions (composing and performing music of various genres, dealing in the field of visual arts, theater, film and multimedia) allowed both composers and performers to create new instrumental music for two pianos, which is devoid of genre boundaries. This blend of contemporary classical music and other contemporary genres is proudly considered as “New Classics”
This CD contains the selected pieces of the composers (M. Raickovich, I. Bozicevic, V. Pejkovic, B. Obradinovic, M. Draskovic, M. Savic, Rambo Amadeus) who were writing for the LP Duo during the previous decade. All the authors in question share a connection with the City of Belgrade through their professional and/or personal experiences.
LP Duo Biography
Pianists Sonja Loncar and Andrija Pavlovic founded LP Duo in 2004. Since then it has become one of the most successful European chamber ensembles. Both musicians completed their undergraduate and postgraduate studies (specialized in piano duo) at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. They further studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (Germany), completing postgraduate and PhD studies in chamber music and piano duo with honor, in the classes of Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl. As solo musicians and piano duo members they won so far over 30 awards at international music competitions. They won First and Special Prize at the Eleventh International Competition for Contemporary Chamber Music in Krakow (Poland), Third Prize at the Chopin Roma competition for piano duos in 2005 (two pianos category), Second Prize (the same category) and Third Prize (four-hands category) at the same competition in 2006. After several qualification stages, together with more than 100 duos from all around the world, LP Duo entered the final stage of the competition (eight best piano duos on the Globe) at the biggest world competition in Miami, Florida, in March 2008. On that occasion, they gave five recitals at Miami University’s Clarke Recital Hall.
In 2009 they received the City of Belgrade Award for youth creativity and the Award of Serbian Music Artists Association (UMUS) for best young artists. In 2010 they were awarded Bruno Frey Stiftung Landesakademie Prize of Baden-Württemberg Province in Germany. In 2011, LP Duo was awarded with the prize for the biggest individuality (Bialystok, Poland).
LP Duo has performed in numerous cities in Serbia, the Netherlands, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Denmark, Switzerland, Finland, Macedonia, San Marino, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the USA, and at the festivals: BELEF, BEMUS, Museum Night in Budapest, International Composers’ Review in Belgrade, Music Biennale Zagreb, TodaysArt Festival in the Hague (Netherlands), Sarajevo Winter Festival, Minimal Art Festival and Canto Ostinato Festival (Netherlands), Days of Macedonian Music, etc. They performed on a special humanitarian concert for UNICEF in Germany. LP Duo has collaborated with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, RTS Symphony Orchestra, Belgrade Strings and Chamber Orchestra of Isidora Žebeljan. They gave Serbian and world premieres of more than 30 contemporary pieces. Many composers dedicated their music to LP Duo. In 2009 they have recorded piece “Dernek” by Croatian composers Ivo Josipovic that was published by HDS Zagreb (Croatia). Their CD with completed works for two pianos by Danish composer Kim Helweg, was published in 2012 for record label from Copenhagen, Helikon Records. LP Duo composes music for theater, movies; TV shows and performs several projects with analog synthesizers.
