Serbia’s mining basin attracting interest, PM says
The Mining and Smelting Basin (RTB) Bor has attracted the interest of at least three companies, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Monday.
Speaking during a visit to the copper mine in the town of Majdanpek, Brnabic told reporters that several companies had paid the deposits for the paperwork needed to apply to become strategic partners with the RTB but did not want to specify their number, saying that the exact number of companies making offers will be known of August >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << 20 when the deadline expires.
The RTB’s strategic partner is expected to guarantee that no one will loose their job and that its investments will total at least 350 million Dollars with production increased at least three-fold over the next four to five years, the prime minister is quoted as saying in a government press release.
The government will decide on its position as an owner of the RTB in line with the submitted offers, Brnabic said. “We have reached a maximum in terms of investments. We have invested in technology, personnel and production and now we’re waiting for a strategic partner,” she added.
“The government has recognized the huge untapped potential of mining which accounts for 0.9 to 1 percent of the GDP and we hope to raise that to five percent over the next few years,” the prime minister said.
