Serbian ruling party local official goes missing

A ruling party councillor in the Vojvodina town of Alibunar has gone missing before a vote in the local assembly and his disappearance has been reported to the police, the Vojvodina Investigative-Analytical Centre (VOICE) reported on Thursday.

Alibunar municipal Mayor Predrag Belic told VOICE that a member of the local assembly had gone missing. “I reported his disappearance to the police when his family informed me and I have been told that they have investigated. He has been >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << gone since Sunday afternoon. His son told us and we heard that some people took him away to Belgrade,” Belic said.

Belic could not confirm unofficial reports that four or five councillors from Alibunar had been taken to the town of Banatski Karlovac and were pressured to vote against him at the next local assembly session. He also denied that he had been expelled from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

Belic was not invited to a recent meeting with a high-ranking SNS delegation which visited Alibunar, VOICE said and added that he had been arrested last December for embezzlement but was released.
