US respects Serbia’s independence, President Vucic says
President Aleksandar Vucic said he believes that the United States will respect Serbia’s sovereignty and independence.
Speaking at the opening of an exhibition on relations between the US and Kingdom of Serbia, Vucic said that he hopes that America will respect the sovereignty, independence and liberty of the Serbian people and state just as Serbia respects the liberty, power and independence of the US.
“America should respect Serbia just as Serbia respects America,” >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Vucic said in the Archive of Serbia, adding that the past 30 years had been difficult in terms of relations with the US with few points of agreement between the two countries.
“Serbia does not expect the US to give it more than it can in line with its interests but Serbia can’t offer more than its own interests. America can help by listening to us as an equal with arguments to advocate our interests. We have no reason to ask for more than that,” the president said.
US Ambassador in Belgrade Kyle Scott said that the displayed documents dating from World War I and later reflect the respect and admiration Americans had for the Serbs. “Americans recognized their own love of freedom and independence in Serbia’s struggle during World War I,” he said.
The US supports Serbia’s efforts to preserve peace and stability and supports the reforms Serbia is implementing, Ambassador Scott said.
