Two centuries of Belgrade University
Belgrade University marked its 210th anniversary on Wednesday with a traditional presentation of awards to its best students.
A total of 32 students from all of the Belgrade University schools received awards this year.
The university marks its anniversary on the day in 1808 when the Grandes Ecoles was inaugurated at the initiative of Serbia’s first Education Minister, writer and philosopher Dositej Obradovic. The name Grandes Ecoles was replaced with university in >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << 1905.
The first generation of the Grandes Ecoles had 20 students including Serbian language reformer Vuk Karadzic. Scientists such as mathematicians Mihailo Petrovic and Milutin Milankovic, botanist Josif Pancic, Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic and President Boris Tadic and Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic among others.
