Thousands protest over southern Serbia airport

Several thousand people protested against the Nis city government’s intention to hand the local airport over to the Serbian government

The city authorities said earlier that they intend to give the Serbian government ownership of the Konstantin Veliki airport which protest organizers said had shown a profit for the third year in a row. A number of low cost airlines fly to and from the Nis city airport.

The protesters have claimed that the government wants to reduce >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the number of flights from the airport following the signing of a concession contract for Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla airport with the French company Vinci Airports.

The Nis city assembly is due to vote on the decision to hand the airport over to the Serbian government in the next few days.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited Nis earlier in the day.
