The world marks Victory Day
The end of World War 2, Vicotry Day is being celebrated on Wednesday on the anniversary of the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945.
The end of the war in Europe came when German officers signed a document surrendering all forces to the allies in the presence of Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov who signed the capitulation document on behalf of the Red Army. A day earlier, German Supreme Commander, Field-Marshal Wilhelm Keitel signed the surrender document.

More than 50 million lives were lost throughout WWII.
May 9 also has a special importance in the European Union. On that day, in 1950, Robert Schuman presented his proposal for a European organization.The Schuman Declaration is considered to be the establishment of what would later become the European Union.
