Teachers protest across Serbia
Four major Serbian teachers’ unions have decided to cut short their classes in elementary and high schools on Tuesday to protest against a draft law on pay grades.
The Independent Teachers’ Union of Vojvodina (NSPRV) said in a statement that classes will be shortened to 30 minutes from the customary 45. The unions are demanding a higher pay grade for around 70,000 teachers with university degrees.
Teachers across Serbia staged a protest on the first day of the school year, September 3, holding classes of 30 minutes as allowed by law. The unions plan to stage identical protests on september 19 and 27.
