Swiss Francs debtors end protest

People with mortgages in Swiss Francs ended their protest on Wednesday outside the Supreme Court of Cassation, after agreement was reached to resolve their cases by October 1.

The protesters demanded a final Court ruling on the loans indexed in the Swiss currency, saying Serbia remained the only country in which such housing mortgages were still valid.

The protest ended following an agreement with Court representatives who promised that their cases would be ruled on by >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << October 1. Lawyer Jelena Pavlovic said agreement was reached on all the cases brought before that court being resolved urgently and added that all the courts in the country would be informed in writing.

The Police said that there were about three hundred protesters who blocked the traffic in the main Nemanjina street.

The demonstrators planned to march to the Finance Ministry to send a message that the banks were not paying all the taxes for their services.

They said that it had been three years since they had to pay bills and repay the debt since the monthly instalment rose to a level higher than their salaries because of the rise in the exchange rate of the Swiss Francs which went wild in 2015.

They added that local courts had been delaying the ruling, preventing them from appealing to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

They reiterated they would start a hunger strike outside the Court if their demand were not met.
