Supporting wall collapses on Southern Serbia road

an entire supporting wall has collapsed on a part of the Corridor 10 road in southern Serbia, the third inicdent of its kind in the past few months.

The wall, supporting the side of a hill above the road, crashed near the entrance to the Predejane tunnel, showering earth, concrete slabs and stone onto a 50 metre section of the road.

The Corridors road construction company said its inspectors were at the scene, determining exactly what happened on the section of road built >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << by the Spanish Azvi company with overight by the Louis Berger and Egnatia Odos consortium. The construction work was financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

This was the third time in five months that a section of supporting wall has collapsed along the corridor 10. The first was last March in the Grdelicka gorge not far from the latest collapse and a second section of supporting wall collapsed in April not far from the town of Predejane. A landslike covered a supporting wall outside the southern Serbian town of Pirot in May but the wall was not damaged.

The Beta news agency reported that some 160,000 square metres of supporting wall have been built to date through the Grdelicka gorge.
