Serbia’s PM to IMF: pensions’ increase linked to GDP

Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation agreed on Wednesday that the country’s reforms in the last three years produced good results.

They also concurred that the structural reforms should continue in 2019 to enable the continued GDP growth.

“The IMF is satisfied with Serbia’s economic trends and the level of our government's consent about the reforms that have to be carried out in future,” Brnabic said. >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija <<

She and the IMF delegation’s head James Ruff discussed a possible increase in salaries and pensions and Brnbaic told him it should be in accordance with the GDP growth and the achieved economic results.

The IMF earlier suggested that the temporary law on reductions of pensions adopted in 2014 should be abolished, but Brnabic said it was not that simple.

Ruff on Wednesday said that the IMF considered a new salary scheme as very important and that the Belgrade government had the full Fund’s support.

He added that the realisation of that job also needed a full cooperation and the exchange of information between all institutions.
