Serbia’s PM: Region needs new economy model
Ana Brnabic, Serbia’s Prime Minister, said on Tuesday that the Western Balkans needed a new economic growth model based on digitalisation, innovations and the IT, her cabinet said in a statement.
Speaking at the economy panel, a part of the two-day European Union-Western Balkans Summit in London, she said that the region’s common challenge was faster and more dynamic GDP growth.
Brnabic told the panel that the Western Balkans region needed more direct foreign investments >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << than the current four billion Euros per year, together with intense work on reducing the unemployment rate among the young population as well as on preventing the brain drain.
She also said that the region would be better off with more financial backing for new technologies, researches, development and suitable climate for the start-ups.
“The strengthening of the regional cooperation is an opportunity we must not miss,” Brnabic said.
Speaking about her government work, Brnabic said it focused on the fight against corruption, the modernisation of public administration and systematic implementation of e-services for citizens and businesses.
Regarding Serbia’s international cooperation in security issues, Brnabic said that “according to the number of members taking part in the UN peace missions, Serbia holds the 10th place in Europe and 3rd in comparison with the size of the population.
