Serbia’s PM: EC report on Serbia positive, but ...
The European Commission annual Enlargement package in its most parts has reflected the country as it is, Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabic has told a news conference, but added she disagreed with some of it.
“This year’s report is positive for Serbia... with all advantages and flows. It also spells out the work laying ahead of us,” Brnabic said of the report published on Tuesday and covering the Western Balkans countries and Turkey.
But, she added, Serbia made >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << more in the rule of law area and media freedom, than the report recognised, partly due to the timing since some reforms were done after February, i.e. after the report’s deadline.
The report said Serbia made some progress in the accession talks with the EU, but failed to improve in rule of law and in normalising the relations with Kosovo.
Brnabic said she was astonished by a part of the report recognising Pristina’s efforts regarding the formation of Communities of Serb Municipalities in Kosovo. “Pristina efforts that happened months after the report’s period are enough to be recognised while Serbia is expected to adopt and implement laws.”
Nevertheless, she said, Serbia’s Government would do everything it could to present its achievements better by June in order to get more negotiating chapters opened.
“It’s up to us to work better and faster,” Brnabic added.
Speaking at the joint news conference with Sem Fabrizi, the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Brnabic said that „the Government of Serbia will try to speed up the process of reforms avoiding potential damage the speed could have on the reforms.”
The report still had some nice words for Serbia’s role in the region and Brnabic said that “Serbia is dedicated to the regional stability and will do everything in its power to preserve it in spite of negative messages sent to Serbia, we will remain calm and open to a dialogue.”
Fabrizi said that the EC report confirmed Serbia’s Government dedication to the country’s European path. He added that good progress was made in the economic reforms, but that the issue of political influence over judiciary had not been solved yet.

There has been no progress in terms of freedom of expression and the media but we will work on that, Serbia’s Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic said at Wednesday’s news conference with European Union Delegation chief Sem Fabrizi... “There are some activities but no progress....
