Serbian opposition wants inquiry into Kopernicus
Opposition Dosta je Bilo (DJB) movement MPs have submitted a motion to form a parliamentary board of inquiry into the purchase of the Kopernicus Technology cable services provider by Telekom Serbia.
The motion was sent to Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic. In it, DJB founder, Sasa Radulovic MP called for the board of inquiry to determine whether the purchase is economically justified.
“It’s unbelievable that Kopernicus was bought for 200 million Euros which is twice >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the amount paid for (farming and food company) PKB which was sold for 105 million Euros and almost four times more thant (the retail chain) C Market whose majority share package cost 45 million Euros in 2005 and four times more than the Port of Belgrade whose majority share package cost 40 million Euros. The RTB Bor (mining and smelting complex) was sold for some 300 million Euros, the (Serbian Oil Industry) NIS for 350,” the motion said.
The DJB “explicitely” demanded an inquest into whether the decision to buy Kopernicus Technology “was preceded by political influence of any kind” and the disclosure of all aspects of the Kopernicus ownership structure, primarily the involvement of anyone who is close to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) “considering the fact that, according to public information from the Business Registry Agency (APR), Kopernicus is owned by two off-shore companies from Cyprus and the Netherlands which are represented by the brother of the senior SNS official for the city of Nis”.
