Serbian opposition party official arrested
An official of the Serbian People’s Party has been arrested in the Vojvodina town of Vrbas, the party said in a press release on Thursday.
The police in the town of Vrbas arrested the party’s top official for the northern province of Vojvodina Borislav Novakovic along with seven other people protesting against what the party says is the illegal removal of a cafe terrace ordered by the municipal authorities.
“A total of 8 people have been arrested for opposing the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << illegal removal of a cafe terrace which the Vrbas municipality conducted without the adequate documents and with the support of more than 30 police officers,” the party press release said, adding that the owner of the cafe was also arrested.
The party demanded for their immediate release and called “the regime to come to its sense and stop arresting political opponents”.
