Serbian minister says no pressure on local authorities
A Serbian cabinet minister has rejected claims of political pressure against three opposition-headed municipalities.
Minister of State Administration and Local Government Branko Ruzic said that his meeting with the mayors of Sabac and Paracin and deputy mayor of Cajetina was organized to show them that there is no “political crime” being committed against them. The meeting was organized at the initiative of Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
Those three municipalities are >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << among the six in all of Serbia which are governed by opposition parties. They believe that the government is discriminating them and trying to “re-compose” their local authorities through pressure.
The meeting discussed election rules and institutional pressure on local authorities.
Minister Ruzic said that a dialogue with local authorities was always important to the ministry, adding that no one has any exclusive rights. “It’s clear to me and the ministry that you are all equal and we will urge regular meetings and other forms of communication to resolve issues,” he said.
