Serbian lawyers on strike over assaults
Lawyers in Serbia staged a one-day strike on Monday to express dissatisfaction over the lack of any concrete results in investigations into assaults on lawyers.
The heads of the Belgrade Lawyers’ Chamber and Serbian Lawyers’ Chamber, Jugoslav Tintor and Viktor Gostiljac told reporters that they would continue insisting on better security for lawyers and on the investigations, especially into the murder of lawyer Dragoslav Misa Ognjanovic who was reported to have been under surveillance.

Tintor said the chambers were given no information on the case and Gostiljac added that it’s not clear whether Ognjanovic was under surveillance as reported by the media and whether that surveillance was legal. He said the surveillance was never denied by the authorities.
Both men said that most of the cases of assaults on lawyers remain unsolved.
