Serbian government adopts law on personal data

The Serbian government has adopted a draft law on the protection of personal data, a government press release said on Monday.

The press release said the law would guarantee protection for all personal data in the same way that the law protects personal data in European Union member states. The introduction of the new law is part of Serbia’s obligations in the accession process to the EU.

The law significantly upgrades the protection of personal data in the domestic legal system and the transfer of that data to other countries because of the increasingly frequent abuse of personal data, it said and added that the existing law has been in force for 9 years.
